Project Overview
The primary goal of this project was to enhance the quarter-mile-long entryway and improve the area around the office and clubhouse as well as the gym, including the pool deck. Additionally, the project involved plans for remodeling the pool in phase one and two. Another key aspect was addressing numerous areas where wood retaining walls were replaced with new concrete wall blocks and rip rap to meet the requirements set by the insurance company.
Project Location
This project took place at an apartment complex in Tallahassee, Florida, in a commercial environment.
Scope of Work
The project involved modernizing two pool areas with new paver decks, adding shade sails, and enhancing the landscaping with plants. Additionally, the entryway to the office and clubhouse, which had multiple stairs, handrails, and transitions, was updated to improve accessibility and aesthetics. Furthermore, the quarter-mile-long entryway was enhanced by adding artificial turf and landscaping plants to create a more inviting and cohesive appearance.
Design Inspiration
The design inspiration for this project was to create a welcoming entryway that had previously been overrun with extreme shade and lacked proper landscape representation. The vision for the office and clubhouse area focused on improving the transition from the parking lot to the front entry, which had been hindered by multiple stair transitions. The pool deck at the office was modernized to give it a more contemporary look, and phase two aimed to address the non-existent landscaping around the gym and further update the pool deck area.
Highlight Features
The standout features of this project include an enhanced entryway with artificial turf providing consistent greenery, leading around to the office. A triple water fountain was added, guiding visitors along a singular walkway to the office. Additionally, extensive artificial turf was used in both the office and gym areas, and unique water features were incorporated throughout the landscape, adding distinctive and inviting elements to the space.
Materials Used
The materials used in this project included pavers, wall block, artificial turf, water features, shade sails, landscape lighting, pottery, and artificial plants. These elements contributed to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the landscape.
Outcome
The completed landscape added value and transformed the space by creating a more inviting and cohesive environment, particularly through the enhanced entryway, which now features consistent greenery with artificial turf and well-placed landscaping. The addition of water features, including the triple water fountain, helped to create focal points that guided visitors toward the office, creating a welcoming and visually appealing path. The modernized pool deck and updated transitions at the office and clubhouse improved both functionality and aesthetics, meeting the client’s goals for a refreshed,
cohesive, and easily accessible space. Overall, the project enhanced the usability and appearance of key areas, providing a well-designed, low-maintenance landscape that satisfied the client’s needs for both beauty and practicality.
