Project Overview
The primary goal of this project was to convert a gated student property into a traditional residential community that would appeal to families and professionals. This included enhancing the entryway, which was previously obscured by large mounds of earth and patio-type trees, improving visibility to the office, and revitalizing the clubhouse area with new landscaping. Additionally, the project involved converting the existing basketball court into Pickleball courts and adding a dedicated area for playground equipment.
Project Location
This project was located at an apartment community in Valdosta, Georgia.
Scope of Work
The scope of work for this project involved the design and construction of several landscape elements, including segmented wall block, recreated signage, pottery, landscape lighting, fencing, water features, Pickleball courts, and playground equipment.
Design Inspiration
The design inspiration for the landscape was to complement and enhance the Spanish-style architecture of the buildings. By removing the guard shack and entry gates, the view of the office and clubhouse became more open, allowing these structures to serve as the focal point for anyone driving down the entry road. This approach aimed to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere, in harmony with the architectural style of the property.
Highlight Features
The standout features of this project include a reimagined entryway with updated signage using stone veneer, the addition of pottery, Pickleball courts, water features, playground equipment, shade sails over a hammock garden, unique walkways, and kinetic sculptures, all contributing to a unique and inviting environment.
Materials Used
The materials used in creating the hardscapes and other landscape features for this project included pavers, wall block, lighting, kinetic sculptures, water features, stone veneer, boulders, shade sails, pottery, and aluminum and chain link fencing.
Outcome
The completed landscape successfully added value and transformed the space by converting it from a gated student property into a vibrant, traditional residential community that appeals to families and professionals. The reimagined entryway, with its updated signage and enhanced visibility, made the office and clubhouse more prominent and inviting. The addition of Pickleball courts, playground equipment, and unique water features further enhanced the community's appeal by creating engaging, family-friendly outdoor spaces. The use of shade sails, kinetic sculptures, and thoughtful landscaping provided both aesthetic value and practical functionality, fulfilling the client's goals of creating an attractive, welcoming environment.
