Completed Project

Project Overview

The client added an extension to their home, which extended into a hillside. The primary goal was to retain the hillside, create a walkway to allow pedestrian movement from the front door to the garage, and install a paved pad connecting the driveway to the home. Additionally, water mitigation measures were needed in the open area between the driveway and the house to manage runoff effectively.

Project Location

This project took place on a residential property in Northeast Tallahassee, Florida.

Scope of Work

The project involved the design and construction of various landscape elements, including wall block, pavers, stone features, irrigation systems, and stormwater management solutions to ensure proper water mitigation.

Design Inspiration

The design focused on enhancing the beauty of the home by addressing a large hillside that initially obscured the house. The vision was to create space between the home and the hillside, featuring a block wall and walkway along the hillside, and a set of stairs leading down to the front. This created a visual effect that made the house appear further away, allowing its natural beauty to be more prominent. Additionally, the landscape was designed to funnel stormwater into a catch basin, efficiently managing runoff from the roof.

Highlight Features

The standout features of this project include an extra-wide walkway leading to the front door, creating a feeling of spaciousness between the driveway and the home. Landscape lighting was used to highlight key elements of the house, and a well-constructed walkway was designed to lead pedestrians to the garage area.

Materials Used

The project utilized landscape block, pavers, lighting, and stormwater mitigation systems to create both functional and aesthetic landscape elements.

Outcome

The completed landscape transformed the space by enhancing the home’s curb appeal and creating a more inviting and spacious environment. The wide walkway and lighting added to the grandeur of the home’s entrance, while the stormwater management system effectively addressed runoff issues, meeting the client's functional and aesthetic goals.
