Project Overview
The primary objective of this project was to revitalize a once-abandoned hotel that had fallen into significant disrepair. The rooms had been vandalized and ransacked by homeless individuals, leaving the property in a state of neglect. The community surrounding the hotel was poorly organized, and the landscape had deteriorated to the point of being nonexistent. The pool was non-functional, further contributing to the dilapidation of the overall environment. This project aimed to transform the property into a functional and appealing space, breathing new life into the neglected site.
Project Location
This project was located in Jacksonville, Florida, specifically in the Baymeadows area of the city. The environment was a commercial space in desperate need of restoration and revitalization.
Scope of Work
The project involved a major transformation of the property to make it a standout development. Key landscape elements included the installation of pavers, waterscapes, concrete structures, artwork, and lighting. The design also incorporated unique elements that created a dynamic and visually striking environment.
Design Inspiration
This project began with the goal of creating continuity across the entire property. Key elements included addressing the pool deck and resolving drainage challenges. A unique signage area was introduced to give the community a distinct identity. With the office being relocated, we also established a central feature, incorporating a water element to create cohesion between both sides of the property. In addition, a previously inaccessible interior courtyard was transformed into a putting green with natural landscapes, while a fountain was installed in an adjacent pond to further enhance the outdoor space.
Highlight Features
This project boasts several standout features that make it truly unique. Under a new monument sign a striking water feature emerges from the hillside, flowing down a 30-foot stream, creating a natural focal point. The addition of a five-hole putting green enhances the recreational aspect of the property. A unique central monument and water feature add a strong visual identity, while sculptures along the road further elevate the aesthetic appeal. New concrete walkways were also installed to seamlessly connect the various areas of the community, fostering a cohesive environment.
Materials Used
The materials utilized for the hardscapes and landscape features included wall block, pavers, veneer, artificial turf, pottery and lighting. These elements combined to create a durable yet visually appealing environment that aligned with the project’s aesthetic goals.
Outcome
The transformation of this property became a shining star within the community. The revitalization impressed both the city and residents, showcasing how the owner was able to reclaim a previously abandoned and disheveled space, add value and turn it into a stunning piece of art. The project not only enhanced the property’s appeal but also significantly improved its value and usability.
